
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 1999) is an American actor and singer whose career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch performer well-known for her soft, smooth vocals. She recorded over 30 albums of jazz and pop standards from 1955 to 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her recording of "Cry me a river", a track that she introduced to her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her character in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her career began as an actress when she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's long and successful acting career started in 1944 , with roles in movies. These included roles as the lead female character in many westerns. She also appeared with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. But she was prominent in the emergency show as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) during which she was a co-star alongside Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
